Q. If you Inspect for me, can't you just go ahead and fix things as you find them?
A. Generally, No. I subscribe to a high level of ethics, which tells me ...
"that I shouldn't be looking for work, while inspecting your house :) " On a serious note, this can create a conflict of interest.
Q. But, you do perform handyman repairs, don't you?
A. Yes, however, I prefer to do repairs on properties where I have not been the Inspector, or on items that I don't or didn't inspect.
(Example, preparing the yard for a new patio or installing a mailbox)
Q. Isn't there a basic rate that all inspectors use?
A. No, most Inspectors are self-employed business owners who set their own fees. Every Inspector has their style and expertise, their type of report and paperwork also varies.
Q. Can't I just use anyone to inspect for me?
A. As an adult, I guess you can do anything you want :) Just kidding! But, based on what or why you are having a property inspected, you should consider your own question, weigh your own options to get your own answer.
If the reason for the inspection is to buy a house that you've just found, you might want to make sure you use a professional that is trained to inspect and evaluate property.
Q. How do I find a good Inspector?
A. You should check around for rates and references. Real Estate Agents are a great source as they interact with Inspectors frequently.
